Purty Flowers

**achoo!!**

I love this time of year.

**cough**

And in NW Washington, it's abso-freakin'-lutely lovely. **sniffle**

I want to share what I've been **achoo** seeing, without the...ah, side effects. **cough**

From my back yard:

I have no idea what these are, but they grow wild ALL over the place up here on these scrubby-looking bushes:

Why do people say violets are blue? They aren't:

I just learned that snails can climb trees. Look:

This is a rhododendron and a Jake. These really are red, red, red, but all the pictures came out making them look like they were pinkish. They're not:

Close-up of a pink rhododendron (isn't "rhododendron" a dreadful name for such an exotic-looking flower? "Rhododendron" sounds a great deal more like a dinosaur than a flower):

Mossy fencepost in the back yard:

Close-up of same post:

There is a huge field on two sides of our yard that is full of flowering grass **ACHOO!!** and wildflowers. The following are all taken in it, but am dissatisfied with all. None really capture it well **achoo, ACHOO!** enough. **sniffle**

And here are a bunch without commentary, because there are SOOOO many pictures, and no one wants to read commentary on each picture. Am I right?

Merry Hay-Fever Season, Everyone!

Wow - those are gorgeous pictures and, I think I made it through the sneezes without getting any snot on me. Whew.

So my favorite pics are: the one with little shoots coming up, the pink flowers after the lady bug pic, and the last one of Jake. But they're all amazing and I think it's so cool that you live in such a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your green with us! (we have green here, but my yard is a bit uglier...)

BeeeUteefulll!!!
I'm glad you added all the sneezing b/c I was tempted to move back for a second there. Try taking a double dose of plain claritin and some 24 hour sudafed. Even then I could go through an entire box of kleenex in a day when it was bad.
I love rhodies!
What was the little shoots pic a pic of?
If you had commentary for every shot I'd read them b/c chances are at least one would be hilarious.

WOW.

Great colors and cute kiddo.

Jake has such great blue eyes. I love 'em. And I'm so jealous of the flowers (hayfever and all). I would kill for color like that down here.

Ah... the price you pay to live in a beautiful place!! I don't envy you your allergies, but the flowers... well, those I miss. I think there are 5 flowers that can grow down here and they all die off in the summer... which would be now.

Jake is a cutie! Do you have to water him every day?

Your word verification hates me tonight. Stupid "v"s that sit together and look like a "w".

I live in a hot dry place where we don't have anything lush anywhere near us :(

of course no allergies either

Jean Knee said...

get rid of that horrid word verification demon. I promise no robots will comment

As always, I love, love your pictures. I wish I had your eye for things like that. But I suppose I can just relax and let you do the work, eh? :)

The major blooming season is over here, but I definitely felt your pain in the heart of the season. Ugh!

Your pictures are gorgeous. Such beauty, true beauty. I keep looking at my weeds, and they're just not too pretty.

shar--the pink flowers are dogwood. You can click on the picture to biggify and it's big enough to use for your desktop...I think. If I did it right.

EW--lil' shoots are nasturtium. And my anti-drainage drug of choice is Nyquil--gets rid of the cough, the drip, and the sore throat pain--for nighttime, anyway.

jennifer b--awww, thanks.

NCS--You can never go wrong by calling my kid cute. Thanks.

Annie--Yeah, I bet. Where you live people try to use rock as landscaping, don't they? I don't envy you a bit.

melissa--I DO have to water him, now that you mention it. He doesn't like it, though, and keeps yelling at me to turn off the hose.

jean knee--I will NOT get rid of the word verification. Robots HAVE commented before. Really, they have! SEE! Look, there's one now! (I'll consider it. But don't you enjoy trying to decipher what they want you to type? C'mon, don't you?)

christina--HI! The major blooming season here is just getting started, I think. It never quite ends. I thought it was the same out east. Isn't it permanently green and flowering?

And welcome, j-mom. Weeds are beautiful, too. You just have to change the way you see them. (Some of those pictures were of weeds.)

Wynne your picture was so nice of the yellow flowering shrub that is was a bit hard to tell but it is Scotch Broom http://www.idahoweedawareness.org/vfg/weedlist/scotchbroom/scotchbroom.html Check out the description...hehe noxious weed. Sorry to hear you've fallen prey to the pollen. My mil has used Afrin nose spray daily for as long as I've known her, she's lived in WA for 35 years. :)

SORRY, I will use "Preview" next time! I was trying to get that link just right and...errgh!
So I'll just add some other nice comment...
You pictures are verrrry lovely.

Damn you and your paradise of a state! Why do you torture me with your pretty scenes?? I hereby curse you with a sneeze that wilts flowers.

Jamie said...

Beautiful pictures. I had to go get my box of kleenex just to read your post. :)

Those are amazing pictures Wynne... Now I see why you left Las Vegas!

Wynne lives in the scenic locale called 'Where The Wild Things Are.'

That last sneeze you did? Yeah, it got Wynee spittle all over the inside of my monitor. Niceeee.

wynne said...

adri--I've been driving Jeff crazy anytime we drive somewhere together--"HEY! That's SCOTCH BROOM!"
"Yeah. You told me. About 600 times already!"

Thanks for the new knowledge.

marie--wow, harsh. But I guess being cursed with a sneeze that wilts flowers is better than being cursed with breath that can wilt flowers...

jamie--Yeah, you know what allergies are all about, don't you? Did they get better or worse in the newest state?

danielle--darn right! Goodbye dusthole, hello mossy bog!

elastic--aw, c'mon. Those weren't real sneezes. They were merely an artist's interpretation of a sneeze. So that's not actually snot. It's merely caro syrup dyed green and thickened with cornstarch. Does that make you feel a lil' better?
