Dress Barn

The first time I heard of it, it was on an episode of the Simpson's. I thought they were mocking the titles of discount stores. I laughed.

Then I saw one.

Are you kidding me?

Really, what were they thinking when they named this store? Who marketed this thing? I mean, really.

"The Dress Barn...Where the Cows Go to Shop. Moo."
"Were you raised in a barn? Then you'll love to buy a dress here!"
"The Dress Barn. 100% authentic chicken crap, all the time!"
"Manure is a girl's best friend."
"Who let the dogs out, who, who, who? Who knows. But you can find them all at The Dress Barn, gettin' their clothes on!"

Yeah. Just doesn't send the right message, if you know what I mean.

I KNOW! My mom and sister and I would often marvel at the idiocy of it (though not so wittily as you do here).

There was a Dress Barn near our house for several years and we couldn't bring ourselves to set foot in there (beyond our first curiosity visit) because it was like we were admitting that we were as large as heifers or something like that. So many disturbing images, so little time...

But apparently they're still in business, so who am I to poo-poo their marketing strategy?

Oh man! I got dragged into this store against my will and now it's my favorite secret. The name is terrible and puts people off, so you won't see everyone around town wearing what you find there. They have good prices and carry petite and women's sizes. (Perfect for a shortie like me) So yup, slap a skirt on me an call me Bessie, but shhh! Don't tell.

I agree... the only time I went in one was right before my sister's wedding. She was getting married in the summer and her colors were navy and silver. Do you know how hard it is to find a navy dress that doesn't scream "GRANDMA" in July?? I was desparate. I didn't find my dress in the Dress Barn... and I'm glad. I would have been ashamed to admit it to anyone!

You are so hilarious!

I put off going there for years when we lived in Portland area and passed by one (Centralia) fairly often. Finally did and...wow! Loooove that place!

We have many Dress Barns dotting the rolling green pastures of Houston.

I act real obnoxious when I go into that store so somebody will ask me if I was raised in a barn and I can tell them, "No, I just shop in one."
